Drawings have an inherent refinement. While they can be applied in a purely artistic manner, the precision of lines makes them a great option for infographics.
Paintings
While paintings too can be created to possess refinement, such as the case with lifelike works such as portraits, the nature of paint endows the artist with an even greater range of expression through the use of texture.
Photographs
There is something about the duality of a photograph that other illustration types just don't have.
Photographs are able to combine the beauty of art while creating a sense of credibility to whatever they accompany.
